A Night At The Movies & Memorial Day

Last night we decided to take the grandkids and their mom, and go to the drive-in movie. Yes they do still have them here!  Though it is out in the middle of nowhere - slightly past Barstow.  Anyway, the movie wasn't supposed to start until 8:30 because it had to get dark, so we didn't head that way until about 7:30.

I didn't really expect a drive-in out in the middle of nowhere to have much of a crowd. Surprise! There was a long line of cars waiting when we drove up!  We ended up waiting in a slow-moving line for about 25 minutes.

By the time we got into the theater and parked, the movie still hadn't started because it wasn't quite dark, so we didn't miss anything.  Besides, when they did start the movie, of course there were 20 minutes worth of commercials - so we really could have been even later!

We brought chairs, blankets, drinks, and snacks, so we were all set.  We expected the girls to sit outside with their mom, but when we got there and I got out of the car to help set things up, the girls climbed into the drivers seat together and settled in to watch the movie!  I guess that meant I was supposed to sit outside with their mom!  Oh well, it was a very nice night out, so I got a blanket and some snacks and settled into the chair to watch the movie!

An outside view of Men in Black 3
I'm not what anyone would call a "movie person" and I don't usually consider going to see many movies, let alone this one, however, it was a fun time with the girls (they did come outside and sit after awhile), and it was something different.  We all enjoyed the outing. Didn't get back home until really late, though.

So today is Memorial Day and we just had a quiet day.  I did some gardening and we barbequed some salmon this afternoon for our dinner.

Birthday Celebration

Oldest granddaughter Kayla had her 10th birthday on the 15th of May.  It really doesn't seem possible!  It is, though, so we had a small get together for her.  It was quiet because no other cousins live nearby anymore (sigh).

She had requested that I make her a carrot cake, so I put that together for her earlier in the day.  I also made dinner for us, chicken taco salads.  The girls love them.

Right after they got here I let the girls call Katie and Tara on Skype so they could spend a few minutes chatting and tell Kayla happy birthday.  They always enjoy talking to each other, even though most of the time they are all busy running around, making silly faces, and more. Oh well, they do have fun.

After their Skype call was through we ate dinner, then put candles on the cake and sang happy birthday.

She had to add a silly face to this one! She must be worried about what is in her presents!

When she finally got to open her presents she got just what she was wanting.  Her own tablet!  Now maybe she will leave her mother's phone alone!  She does send me some sweet texts from it though, so I don't complain.

After the presents were opened we all had some carrot cake and ice cream, which was really good. Kayla liked it, which is good because she is very picky about her cake.

It was a small, quiet, but fun birthday.

On Mother's Day

I talked to all of the kids today.  They all called at different times to wish me a happy mother's day.  I even had mother's day wishes from a niece!

Jennifer, Kayla and Marissa came over and cooked dinner for us.  That was nice.  The dinner was simple, and we mostly just had a quiet day, but it was enjoyable and relaxing. The girls spent time watching some shows on netflix and we played some games with them. We had fun!

It was nice to have a quiet routine Sunday, at home, without being at the hospital, and without any medical issues.....well, except for the normal after surgery soreness and tiredness, that is.

Happy Mother's Day.

A Little Surgery

I'm sure there aren't any strangers out there reading this, but just in case, a little info:

The hubby had his heart bypass surgery on Thursday, May 3rd. It was a long 7 1/2 hours, but all went well and, with a few exceptions, he is doing very well.

                 ***************************************************************

I'm just enjoying some "down time" right now.  I didn't think I would be able to post anytime soon, but today I am able to just sit for a little bit and have a cup of tea!  I will be heading for the hospital in a while, but things are going well and I don't feel rushed to get there.  That is good!

Since everything is going so well, we should be able to head home tomorrow, which will be nice.  I'm sure there will be a few bumps in the road, but hopefully not too bad.

Don't let this happen to you!
And here is a picture of the San Diego mormon temple at night.  It isn't a very good picture but it gives you an idea of it.  Do you think they put a little money into it?  It lights up the whole sky.

  Well, back to the hospital!
