Last weekend my niece, sister, and I traveled to Utah to pick up the grandkids (Katie and Tara) for a visit. Because of work schedules we only had the weekend to work with. I knew there would be traffic but I didn't expect what we ended up in!
We headed out late Friday afternoon and did pretty well until 19 miles from the Nevada state line. We came to a grinding halt at that time! From that point on we inched along, sometimes totally stopped, most of the time moving at about 5 miles per hour! We finally got to the state line three hours later! It wasn't all bad, some of the drivers started a game and were passing snacks back and forth to each other while they were moving slowly along. It helped to keep us entertained!
When we finally got to the state line we stopped and took a breather from all the traffic, then continued on without any more delays.
Because we were so far behind by this time we drove as far as we could get and finally pulled into a rest stop to sleep for a little while. We knew if we checked into a motel we would all be so tired we wouldn't get the early start in the morning that we wanted. So you can guess how much restful sleep we got! It was enough though, to get us to our destination, which took only about three more hours. We arrived at about ten o'clock Saturday morning.
It's a good thing we had comfortable beds to sleep in Saturday night because we got up bright and early Sunday morning, grabbed the grandkids, and headed back to California! Of course we ran into more traffic! What should have been an eight-hour drive home ended up a twelve-hour drive!
Weekends are NOT the time for travel!

Hi Jan, we learned years ago not to travel weekends... We have the Silverstone Formula 1 car racing in Northamptonshire this weekend... A lot of the racegoers queued for hours on the roads approaching the circuit for the practice on Friday, only to be told when they got there the carparks were waterlogged, go away... Boy I bet they were mad.......You would have thought that they would have put it on the travel news on the radio wouldn't you?
